Hiccups

I had hiccups for about a half hour before I got my lazy butt off of the couch to get rid of them with my dad's remedy - drinking water while holding a toothpick between your teeth.  I swear that this works EVERY time.  It has never not cured them for me or anyone else I've told about it.

Now I'm surfing Ravelry and falling asleep.  Drat why do we even need sleep?  I could get so much done if I could power through 24 hours straight...

More Asheville...

I miss the seasons.  Seeing everything come back to life makes me feel more in tune with nature and the cycle of life.  Here in Florida it's either hot or hotter.  It is somewhat nice that everything is lush and green all year round and that you can hang out outside all year round.  But being in NC in the spring made me nostalgic for all that I grew up with in PA.  All of these photos were taken with an iPhone and are completely unedited - aside from the one of me that I cropped to get it centered better - I didn't even bother to put my normal watermark on them.  The one with the bluer than blue sky is one of those ones that you just want to stare at and ponder over how something could be so beautiful...

Busy weekend ahead!

I swear I browse crochet patterns more than I actually crochet.  I have way too many yarn related projects in the hopper.  I would love nothing more than to sit at home all weekend and play; however there are way too many things on my list to warrant that.  Lunch with a friend tomorrow at the outdoor mall, Saturday Aventura Mall, and Sunday maybe the beach if the weather clears up.

I'm also getting ready to start a fairly large home improvement project.  I will be renovating my bathroom.  This should be a challenging but completely doable undertaking.  Since my sink is outside the actual bathroom I plan to tackle that part first.  Once I prove to myself that I can tile and grout - I'm putting down black pebbles on mesh backing - then I will move on to the actual bathroom.  That's when I will single-handedly remove the toilet and replace it with a super pretty square one.  I'm pretty stubborn and headstrong so, as of this moment, I have every confidence that I will be successful!  This is what happens when you're home sick and do nothing by watch DIY Network and HGTV for days on end.

Been Sick...
...for so long now.  It's going on 12 days.  I'm coming out of my fog and took some time to edit photos from 2 recent mini-vacations - Asheville, NC and Key West, FL.  Asheville is, so far, my favorite place on Earth.  The serenity that I experience when I'm there is unlike anything that I've encountered.

We stay in a quaint little cabin that was built in the 1930's - www.theashevillecabins.com

As for the Key West trip - honestly I wasn't looking forward to it at all.  I can't stand the drive to get down there and I'm not really a big partier.  I went for a friend's wedding and had a much nicer time than I thought I would.  The church was absolutely amazing!

And even though it rained later that day, the sunset was brilliant!

Bought myself my very first bauble from www.tiffany.com too!

I am obsessed with Granny Squares!

Type "granny" into Ravelry and you get 142 pages of sheer joy.  I remember being a little kid and always examining the granny blanket that we had.  I have no idea who made it.  There was a great aunt who was crafty and made blankets and such, so I am thinking it could've been made by her.  Anyway, I would spend so much time looking at that blanket and wondering how on earth it all got put together.  Now I know!

I love the mindlessness, the portability, the endless color selections and items that you can make with just this one single foundation.

Granny Squares make me happy.

Ohmy....could it really be?  My first blog post?

Holy cats I've thought about blogging a million and a half times.  I have a reasonably quiet drive to work and along the way I think about what I've read in other blogs and what I would like to share in my own.  My life is not that exciting but I find that just the process of identifying what makes us happy makes us all the more happy.  So I hope that focusing on those things, the little things in life, will add to my peace of mind.

I've finally finished my latest and largest crochet project yet.  This one involved a bit of sewing, which I was not happy about.  All in all it turned out lovely.  I am so so so happy with this bag, and have such a sense of fulfillment to have completed this.

The pattern can be found here and is very appropriate for beginners or experienced crocheters.
