Baby Blankey

Finally finished with the baby blankey that I've been working on!

So, I bought some purple muslin to make covers for 4 outdoor pillows - a year and a half ago.  Started the covers last weekend and planned on whipstitching them shut this weekend.  Yeah, that didn't go so well.  Sewing is just not my thing.  I've made several things over the years.  Lots of belly dance bras and choli tops.  But every time I finish a project I feel more frustrated than fulfilled, and I ask myself why I keep trying.  So I gave up on the whipstitching and figured that I would install zippers.  Can't believe that I still had all the original stuff that came with my machine that I bought 20 years ago.  Even found the manual!  By the time the fourth cover had it's zipper I was a pro!  So, maybe I won't give up after all...  Some flannel jammie bottoms are next!

Life is not always fair...

Growing up was hard sometimes.  Hearing "life is not always fair", and knowing that I would eventually have to be accountable for myself was both sad and scary.  I truly believe that being told these things over and over is what pushed me to pursue an education and allowed me to attain a great career - even though I ended up in a field entirely different that I was educated for.  Who knows, it might not be too late to be a microbiologist, right?!

We all have our own personal issues with our upbringing and I'm sure that not one person has had a perfect childhood.  That being said, I'm actually thankful that I was not surrounded by people who enabled me to be helpless and tolerated my outbursts and tantrums.  I did not have problem avoiders in my life who encouraged me to blame everyone but myself for my problems and expect my emotional well being to be someone else's responsibility.

I can stand on my own two feet and pay my own way in life.  I am not emotionally or financially dependent to the extent that I would be homeless should something extreme change in my circumstances.  I hope to teach my kids the same things so that they will always be able to take care of themselves and that they can make their own way in life without leeching off of others.

Ok, in my own defense, this is because of the half off sale that continues at Elegant Stitches.  I got some amazing Noro and pink kid mohair to blend into a sweater.  Also the yummy stuff in the middle (gold, rust, and red) is for my other son's blanket.  The big one (they're twins but always referred to as the big one and the little one) keeps asking for his to be finished first though.  Says he's "cold".  We live in Florida and the low temperature doesn't really fall below 80 degrees at this time of year so, I don't buy that.  But, I do buy yarn.  Lot's of yarn:

Luckily the holidays are coming soon, so some of this should be used up to make room for more.

So far it's been a relaxing weekend, other than kid drama.  This is how I spent my Sunday morning...  Coffee in one hand, phone in the other, cat between my boobs.  What more could you want?

Lots to do this weekend

Almost time for another weekend already, and a long one at that!!!  Hopefully I can get that tennis match in with the boy on Sunday.  Elegant Stitches (the far yarn store) has extended their half off sale until 9/8 so I will most likely be making a trip there again on Saturday.  I know I said nooooo more yarn, but I can't resist.  They are selling the store so once that is finalized they won't have these sale prices again.  May as well stock up!

I need to finish the baby blanket this weekend so that I can start working on holiday gifts.  I've decided that I'm going to make matching wristers for everyone who got a scarf last year.  I also need to work on my own hat/wrister combo so I can finish them before Asheville.  For mine, I'm using a free pattern from garn studios using drops delight yarn.  This is what the final will look like:

Busy Weekend

Well geesh, where did the weekend go?  I'm still awake listening to the wind and rain from TS Isaac.  I cannot believe how the news hyped this up.  They get everyone in a panic going to buy all the bread, milk, and water.  Then what we end up with is just a worse than normal windy, rainy day.

Even with the pending storm I got to go to the "far yarn store".  I call it that because it's all the way in South Miami.  This place has an amazing selection and everything is half off until the end of August.  I'm so hoping that they are not going out of business because there's really no where else like that in South Florida.

I got more of my favorite Noro (maybe another granny bag?) and some delicious alpaca/silk blend that my son is now begging me to make him a blanket with.  Also got angora that I'll make wristlets out of for the office cause it's unbearably cold in there!

I suppose I'm ready for the work week tomorrow but I could really use just one more day off...

Park Sunset

Thought it was going to storm in the early evening but it turned out to be beautiful.  The humidity went down and we had a nice breeze.  TS Isaac is still making up it's mind where it's going and we're starting to see a bit of the surrounding weather.  Hopefully we'll be able to get in a game of tennis in the morning, then spend the afternoon playing at the yarn store, and finally coffeeeeeee.

Snapped a quick shot of the sunset tonight at the park.  Not as nice as those we get in the winter here but after the dark blue/black skies cleared it was brilliant.
